Red Hook, New York, is a historic town located in the northwestern part of Dutchess County.  According to the town’s website, Red Hook “has that ‘home town main street America’ atmosphere with all of the character and friendliness of a small town while maintaining its quiet country charm, yet enjoying easy access to all conveniences.”

The first documented Town of Red Hook meeting was held on April 6, 1813, in a local inn, and the name is said to be after the red foliage on trees on a small strip of land on the banks of the Hudson River. Red Hook contains two villages, Red Hook and Tivoli, and two hamlets.

According to the Red Hook Chamber of Commerce, the region is abundant with natural beauty and interesting history. Settled by Europeans at the end of the 17th century, the area includes famous apple orchards, spectacular river valley views, historic homes and well respected academic institutions.

Milan

Milan is a neighboring town to Red Hook in the northern part of Dutchess county.  The two share a zip code.

Milan is made up of several hamlets and communities: Jackson Corners, Lafayetteville, Milanville, Rock City and Shookville.  The town also is home to many beautiful parks including the Wilcox Memorial Park and the Milan Rec Park.

According to the town’s website, the community is “conveniently located near the Taconic State Parkway, providing easy vehicle access to NY State’s Capital in Albany and the world’s center of commerce and finance, New York City.  Milan's history, like much of Northern Dutchess, is based on agriculture.  There are few commercial or industrial enterprises in the town, however, there is a growing base of professional and home based businesses.”
