The town of Gardiner is located in Ulster County, New York. According to the Town of Gardiner website, it is situated on the outer fringe of the New York metropolitan area, equidistant from the Hudson River cities of Kingston, Newburgh and Poughkeepsie and approximately 75 miles north of New York City. “The landscape varies from vertical rock cliffs and evergreen forests of the Shawangunk Mountains to the basins and broad floodplains of the Wallkill River, Shawangunk Kill and Mara Kill streams,” it says.

The first settlers in the region were from France. The town was named for Lt. Gov. Addison Gardiner. In 1925, a fire destroyed a large part of Gardiner village. Landmarks of note include the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail, which begins in southern Gardiner and runs along the abandoned Wallkill Valley Railroad rail corridor to New Paltz, New York.

Majestic Park features a skate park, playground, gazebo and covered picnic area. It also has a baseball diamond, basketball and handball courts. The Phillies Bridge Farm Project is the oldest working farm in New York State. Its Community Supported Agriculture Program serves families in the area and is a non-for-profit organization.
