The town of Fishkill is in the southwest part of Dutchess County, approximately 60 miles north of New York City and partly surrounding Beacon. The area is noted for its proximity to “roads, river and rail,” offering many areas for outdoor entertainment including biking, hiking, fishing and boating.

It contains a village named Fishkill, and Fishkill Creek gives the town its name.  Fishkill proudly houses Dutchess Stadium, the home of the Hudson Valley Renegades, a Class A Minor League baseball team affiliated with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Fishkill is home to the Van Wyck Homestead Museum, also known as Van Wyck-Wharton House, an early 18th-century Dutch colonial house. It served as headquarters to a major military supply depot during the American Revolutionary War, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Fishkill Historical Society was founded in 1962 by residents to preserve the Van Wyck Homestead.  They fought to save the site from demolition for the construction of Interstate 84.  The Van Wyck Homestead is now serving as a museum that is maintained and operated by the Fishkill Historical Society's volunteers.
