Milton, a hamlet located in Ulster County, was named after the English poet, John Milton and is on the west bank of the Hudson River.  The community of Milton is set in the northeast part of the Town of Marlborough.

The Milton Railroad Station, which is located on Dock Road at the Hudson River, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.  It was built for the West Shore Railroad in the late 19th century.  While passenger service ceased in 1959, it has been used for tastings by a local winery and it is being renovated as a community center for the Town of Marlborough.

Movie buffs will note that in 1959 the motion picture “The Fugitive Kind,” which starred Marlon Brando and Anna Magnani, was filmed in Milton. The main street was made to look like an old town in the deep south. The film was based on a play by Tennessee Williams.
