Ancram, New York

Ancram is a town in southeastern Columbia County, New York known for its beautiful landscape.  With a total area of 42.7 square miles, it is 20 miles from Hudson, 50 miles from Albany 35 miles from Poughkeepsie. 

 

Several communities can be found in Ancram: the hamlet known as Ancram; Ancramdale; Boston Corner, which is adjacent to the Massachusetts border; Taconic State Park and Weed Mines.

 

According to the town’s website, it was founded in 1803 and was originally part of Gallatin. “In 1814 Ancram separated from Gallatin and became an independent Town,” it notes.  “The name was derived from the Livingston homestead in Anchoram, Scotland.”
