A unique feature in Lake Claire, which is east of downtown Atlanta, is the Lake Claire Community Land Trust, which is an idyllic, community-owned green space in the heart of Lake Claire with gardens, a children's play area, a sweat lodge and drum circles, according to Beth Damon, a 24-year resident and the editor of the neighborhood newspaper, Lake Claire Clarion. The Dekalb County community has a diverse mix of home styles, around 1,400 homes, mature trees and green spaces. “We’re a tight-knit community with a neighborhood association and publish community news monthly,” Damon said.

Resident Sherry Neal lives on the eastern edge of the neighborhood and can walk to Lake Claire Park, Candler Park, Freedom Park and Bessie Branham Park in neighboring Kirkwood. “We also love being able to walk to Decatur, Little Five Points and enjoy the annual festivals like the Inman Park Festival, Candler Park Fall Fest and the Decatur Book Festival,” she said. “We know our neighbors and love having lots of friends to watch over our kids. There is a real sense of community and we all look out for each other.”

Nearby shopping includes the Edgewood Retail District on Moreland with big box retailers. In addition, where Candler Park and Lake Claire meet, residents enjoy the Flying Biscuit, Donna Van Gogh's for gifts and art, Kelly's Closet for one-of-a-kind wedding dresses, Dr. Bombay's Underwater Tea Party (a favorite with kids for its ice cream counter), La Fonda Latina, Fellini's Pizza, the Candler Park Market and Gato. Residents receive medical care at Piedmont Hospital, Northside Hospital, St. Joseph's Hospital, DeKalb Medical in Decatur, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Emory, Atlanta Medical Center and Emory University Hospital Midtown.

The public schools are Mary Lin Elementary, Inman Middle School and Grady High School.
