Grant Park is the birthplace of panda cubs Mei Lan, Xi Lan and Po at Zoo Atlanta; the resting place of “Gone With the Wind” author Margaret Mitchell; site of the city’s oldest park; and the one-time home of Ty Pennington, host of the former ABC-TV series Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. It’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is ranked among the city's most respected historic districts and is an intown community bordered by Memorial Drive and Oakland Cemetery to the north.

With over 131 acres, Grant Park is the fourth largest park in the city and its surrounding neighborhood has a public swimming pool, apartments, single-family homes, lofts - and condos, including Atlanta’s first residential LEED Silver-certified community. Grant Park is noted for its tree-lined, brick-paved sidewalks; late 19th and early 20th century Craftsman bungalows, cottages and Victorian homes; and the storied 1856 home once belonging Grant Park’s namesake, Lemuel P. Grant.

His home is part of the 2012 Grant Park Candlelight Tour of Homes and was the birthplace of golf legend Robert Tyre "Bobby" Jones. In 1941, Margaret Mitchell loaned $3,000 to turn it into a museum and it was purchased by the Atlanta Preservation Center in 2001. The candlelight tour, which includes hayrides and visits with Santa, showcases homes exemplifying Grant Park's architectural styling.

Grant Park has its own charter school, neighborhood association and remains fairly affordable. Its schools are Cook, Parkside, John Hope and Dunbar Elementary; King Middle School; Maynard Jackson High School; Imagine Wesley International Academy; Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School; and Saint Nicholas Orthodox Academy.

Year-round events include the Grant Park Conservancy Summer Shade Festival in August with food, music and artwork and the Grant Park Farmers Market, which runs April through December. As a walkable, tight-knit community with a rich history and eclectic dining and shopping options, Grant Park is a truly sought-after place to call home.
