Phillips Campbell McDuffie, a well-known lawyer, began to develop Garden Hills in 1925 as a country club community. Today the neighborhood includes lovely pocket parks and approximately 750 homes with Craftsman, Georgian, Tudor, Spanish Revival and traditional styling. Common features include gables, dormer windows, front porches, some brick siding, back porches, landscaped yards and bay windows.

The tree-lined neighborhood is just south of Buckhead Village and includes the Atlanta International School and Garden Hills Elementary School, which are on the National Register of Historic Places and were designed by Architect Philip Shutze. The Garden Hills Garden Club has worked hard with the Garden Hills Civic Association on beautification and the neighborhood is also near three parks: Sunnybrook Park, which includes a stream and stone bridges; Alexander Park, which is across from the neighborhood’s swimming pool and Frankie Allen Park, which is a spacious park on Pharr Road with picnic areas, a tennis facility and a baseball diamond.

The heart of the neighborhood is Garden Hills Park, which is supported by the Garden Hills Neighborhood Foundation and is a key gathering spot. In the summer, the pool stays in constant use while a nearby field provides green space for activities like Frisbee and soccer. Annual events include a yard sale, ice-cream social and the Garden Hills Gala, which is a magical evening of dancing and dining. The pool’s clubhouse - known as the Garden Hills Recreational Center - dates back to the 1930s and is the site for many neighborhood events.

Garden Hills is bordered by Pharr Road to the north, Lindbergh Drive to the south and has a roundabout with a waterfall, landscaping and several statues where Rumson and Bolling Road intersect. The schools serving the community are Garden Hills Elementary School, Sutton Middle School and North Atlanta High School.
