Collier Hills is named for the Collier family who once had an estate there and operated a gristmill named Collier’s Mill. Today, the Buckhead community has a wide variety of homes, including cottages built in the 1940s, contemporary homes built in the 1970s and 1980s and newly constructed single-family homes. The homes range in price from approximately $400,000 to $700,000, are located just north of Midtown and are decorative with gables, dormer windows, bay windows, tree-lined lots, patios, porches and lovely landscaping. Collier Hills also includes some condominiums and apartments.

The community dates back to 1941 and is very popular with Piedmont Hospital doctors and nurses since most of the neighborhood is within walking distance of the hospital. Residents also enjoy proximity to some of the city’s best restaurants, shopping centers, fitness centers and three parks including Tanyard Creek, Ardmore and Atlanta Memorial Park, which includes the Bobby Jones Golf Course & Park Conservancy and Bitsy Grant Tennis Center. The community is within a mile of The District at Howell Mill shopping center and also has excellent access to I-75, Peachtree Road and Northside Drive.

Eco-minded residents appreciate the proximity to the Peachtree Road Farmers Market, Whole Foods and restaurants like Ted’s Montana Grill, which is owned by CNN Founder Ted Turner and acclaimed restaurateur George McKerrow Jr. Katherine Dorsett, a CNN.com freelance copyeditor and writer, actually spotted the environmental activist at the restaurant one night. “He waved at us and smiled,” she said.

The public schools serving Collier Hills are E. Rivers Elementary School, Morris Brandon Elementary School, Sutton Middle School and North Atlanta High School. Some of the city's best private schools are also nearby.

Throughout Collier Hills are Civil War markers, which show the locations of some of the Battle of Atlanta’s defining moments.
