Food and the Hudson Valley: A Culinary Tour of the Hudson Valley

The Hudson Valley is synonymous with good food, farm-fresh ingredients and a world-class gastronomic experience. It’s no secret then, that the region is home to a bounty of international chefs that have migrated to the area to flex their culinary muscle.

From traditional French to farm-to-table and fine Italian to new American, there is a fare to satisfy every appetite. Let us take you on a culinary tour of just a few of our favorite dining locales in the Hudson Valley.

We’ll start in Millbrook with Café Les Baux, a relaxed establishment that features traditional French cuisine prepared by Chef Herve Bochard. The classic French dishes are as inviting as the atmosphere. Some favorites include the Le Carre d’Agneau (rack of lamb) and Les Moules Frites (steamed mussels).

Next we’ll head over to Kingston, which is home to Elephant, a Spanish tapas and wine bar. What this establishment lacks in size, it surly makes up for in lively atmosphere and bold flavors. With so many choices on their small-plate menu, we recommend trying a bit of everything.

From Kingston we head north to Hudson where we find Fish & Game, a James Beard award-winning restaurant by famed New York City chef Zakary Pelaccio. The rustic-elegant dining experience permeates from the dining room to the dishes, which feature a regional bounty of ingredients sourced from the Hudson Valley. Request their tasting menu to embrace the full experience.

Last, but certainly not least, we head down to Hyde Park, which is home to the world-renowned Culinary Institute of America. The world’s premier culinary college features two upscale dining experiences prepared by up-and-coming culinary stars. Ristorante Caterina De’ Medici is an authentic and sophisticated Italian dining experience, while American Bounty features casually elegant dishes that focus on regional and seasonal ingredients.
