Canaan, New York

Canaan is a town in the northeast part of Columbia County.  Interstate 90 passes through Canaan, connecting the Massachusetts Turnpike with the New York State Thruway. The east town line is the border of Massachusetts and the Taconic Mountains can be seen in the northeast corner of the town.

There are many communities and towns within Canaan: the hamlet known as Canaan, formerly known as Canaan Corners; Canaan Center; East Chatham; Edwards Park; Flatbrook; Queechy; Queechy Lake; and Red Rock.

The Lace House, which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985, is a frame house that was built in the early 19th century.  It was designed by the Fuller Brothers and is also known as the Uriah Edwards House.
