“Jenny Brook” in Wawarsing

Jenny Brook

“I lost my heart to Jenny Brook, I think she took it with a hook,” wrote John Burroughs about a historically significant camp and trout hatchery in the foothills of the Catskills. Conceived in 1911 by a prominent naturalist and explorer, the Jenny Brook trout hatchery became the most successful in the country. The camp was the weekend destination by many notables including those with outstanding artistic, scientific and industrial accomplishments. Arguably the finest private holding of crystal clear drinking water in the Northeast, one of many springs on the land produces 1400 gallons per minute all year round. This oasis also boasts dramatic cliffs, hemlock forests and fern valleys. The current owner has reincarnated Jenny Brook with his team of expert craftsmen and masterful masons. An extraordinary cabin on its original footprint has been totally rebuilt as depicted in photographs of earlier times. Raceways and hatchery beds have also been reclaimed as well as ponds for potential hydroponics.
